#dctech, here’s a list of local biz resources you can tap into amidst the COVID-19 spread

We’ve been covering the COVID-19 spread from the tech perspective as best as we can, starting with how the virus was affecting the #dctech community as of early last week.

Now, we’re looking toward solutions by sharing this list of resources to help local businesses and technologists, to be updated with more information as it becomes available:

Event updates

We’re consistently updating this list of tech events and happenings in the region that have either been postponed, canceled or moved to online. Washington City Paper is also keeping a running list of all events and happenings being canceled in the region.

AlertDC

To stay up-to-date on changes happening around the District, sign up for AlertDC. This communication outlet will alert you via email and text on any emergency alerts.

SBA loans

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced on March 12 that it will be providing disaster loan assistance to small businesses impacted by COVID-19. Some documents you can expect to share with your application include monthly sales history for the past two years and proof that your business has been financially impacted by the virus.

Help for nonprofits

The Bowser Administration has partnered with the United Way of the National Capital Area to provide an online giving platform to 501c3 faith-based institutions that are unable to collect funds because of COVID-19 closures. Institutions can request access to the platform until April 1.

Bar closure list

The founders behind the Happied app have published a running list, in alphabetical order, of closures, reduced hours, pickup/delivery service only and other changes to D.C. restaurant and bar operations. This list will be updated each morning and evening.

Remote work tips

Lily Strelich, creative director at OurStreets and 730DC editor, shared advice in this Medium post about how to survive working from home if you’re new to this.

WFH policy audit

Prominent #dctech community leader Dan Berger started a work-from-home policy audit of local tech companies, and he’s looking for folks to add information.

Resources for artists

This running list of free resources is for freelance artists living in any area — including D.C. — who are looking for support from the lack of work due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
