D.C. social media startup Sagoon has been chosen to attend the 2017 Global Entrepreneurship Summit at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre in Hyderabad, India.

This year’s summit, which focuses on women entrepreneurs, will be held November 28-30. The event will be attended by 1,600 entrepreneurs from around the world, and will kick off with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. presidential advisor Ivanka Trump.

“As a company with Indian roots, it is an honor to be selected to participate in the Global Entrepreneurship Summit, taking place in our country for the very first time,” said Sagoon cofounder Swati Dayal, who joined the company in 2013. The company is also headquartered in New Delhi. “We look forward to showcasing Sagoon as a growing startup with opportunities for investment, partnership, and collaboration.”

Sagoon, initially a search engine, was cofounded in 2009 by Govinda Giri, a former sytstem engineer at the Pentagon. It allows users to make money through social networking with coupons, gift cards and other incentives. The site evolved into a social commerce platform in 2014, raised $500,000 in seed funding last year and its latest funding round will close on Nov. 30. The equity crowdfunding round raised $1.8 million so far, as of Nov. 9.

Given the theme of the event, Giri said, “We’re also proud to be able to highlight our cofounder, Swati Dayal, and all that she has done to push Sagoon forward.”
