Walker’s Legacy, a D.C.-based (but national) professional collective for women of color in entrepreneurship, is set to launch a new business accelerator.
The nine-week program, called PROSPECTUS, happens online by webinar. “We want to give [female founders of color] all the resources they need to kickstart their dreams,” Rachel Hampton told Technical.ly. This means lessons on building a team, presenting to investors, developing a marketing plan and so much more.
The online course convenes on Sundays from 6-8 p.m., starting Sunday, Jan. 15. The program will culminate in a pitch competition, at which the participants will have a chance to win a $5,000 cash prize provided by partner Wells Fargo. Walker’s Legacy is still accepting applicants for the program, so if you’re a female founder of color check it out here (there’s a $100 fee to register).
Walker’s Legacy, which is inspired (as the name suggests) by the African-American entrepreneur Madam C.J. Walker, was founded in 2009. Though it employs a team of three here in D.C., the organization runs programming and events in cities around the country.
The PROSPECTUS accelerator program is a new way for Walker’s Legacy to fulfill its mission of “economic equity,” and one that Hampton is looking forward to seeing in action. “I’m just so excited about it,” she told Technical.ly.
