DCFemTech, the umbrella organization for local women-in-tech groups, announced the list of 30 women who will receive the first annual “Powerful Women Programmers” award.

“The more the media talks about the rockstar women engineers in D.C. the more workers at companies throughout our region will talk internally about this,” said organizer Kaylyn Gibilterra in an email.

Evolution is essential, she added, because those who create the technology of tomorrow will also be inspired as end users. “So many incredible products like Apple computers or Facebook, were built by the same people that wanted to use the product,” said Gibilterra. “Women have the highest potential to shift company culture and increase long term profitability.”

Without further ado, here is the full list:

The winners were chosen out of almost 80 submissions by a jury of a dozen women engineers, designers and executives. The criteria? The impact of their work on their organization; on the community; and its complexity.

“Many of the awards programs and events honoring women in technology tend to include non techies (e.g.marketers or executives),” said organizer and SocialRadar VP of marketing Shana Glenzer in an email. “We felt that it was important to get more specific.”

The award ceremony will be held on April 28 at Google DC.
