Rise and shine, #DMVStartup scene. You’ve now got your own wiki.
That’s all thanks to Brandon T. Luong’s sense of bewilderment when he moved back to the capital last year after stints in New York, San Francisco and Shanghai.
The D.C. native raised in NoVa was lost. “I had no idea who everyone was,” said Luong.
So he helped launch a new hashtag, then a Facebook group and even a very useful WELCOME TO THE M*****F***ING DMV STARTUP handbook. (Full disclosure: Technical.ly DC elbowed its way to a spot on the news outlet list.)
The latest initiative, the DMV Startup Squarespace wiki, came out last night. It aims to become a compendium of all homegrown startups and resources for entrepreneurs, including accelerators and government initiatives.
Luong wants to create a sense of unity among the broader D.C.-and-suburbs startup community. He also wants to create common ground for those who don’t correspond to a narrow definition of tech. “Whenever people talk about startups in D.C.,” he said, “they only regard technology.” But there’s much, much more.
