A pair of academics built a database of crowd estimates from every Women’s March around the world on Saturday and another one plotted them onto a map using Bushwick-based platform CARTO.
The project estimated the New York City demonstration to be between 400,000 and 500,000 people.
Plenty of places that aren’t New York or Washington, D.C., marched, too.
- Between 125,000 and 175,000 marched in Seattle, an estimated 250,000 in Chicago, and between 100,000 and 150,000 in San Francisco.
- About 300 people marched in Beaumont, Texas, 5,000 in Louisville, Ky., and between 80 and 11o in Missoula, Idaho.
- Overseas, 100,000 marched in London, 250 in Antigua, Guatemala, and 140 in Lusaka, Zambia.
Here’s the map:
The data was compiled by Erica Chenoweth, of the University of Denver, and Jeremy Pressman, of the University of Connecticut, into an astoundingly complete database, and mapped onto CARTO by Eric Compas, of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
