That’s right: the majority of Philly’s reported bike thefts occur in University City or Center City. But the worst place to park your bike appears to be right across the street from City Hall.
That’s according to Gregory Kaminski’s Bike Thefts in Philadelphia map. It and others — including maps of residential burglaries, roof deck permits (as a way to track neighborhood development) and a visualization of the city budget — were the winners of a contest organized by Azavea and OpenDataPhilly.
See the 9 winning projectsMost of the winners are based in Philadelphia, including familiar faces like Code for Philly’s Chris Alfano and Lauren Ancona, though Brooklyn-based civic hacker Chris Whong is one exception.
The prizes were decidedly low stakes (“$500 in Amazon gift cards divided among winners,” according to the Azavea blog post), but the winning projects will be featured on the soon to be relaunched OpenDataPhilly website.
