The 79 articles and more than 30,000 sections of the State Code of Maryland are now in an easy-to-read format on MarylandCode.org.
In public beta right now, the project — Maryland Decoded — is the third of such websites developed using The State Decoded, an open-source software platform and API to display states’ law codes. The free platform was originally developed in 2010 thanks to a grant from the Knight Foundation.
MarylandCode.org is an ambitious open data project of the OpenGov Foundation, which used The State Decoded’s software program to assemble the website. There are state code websites for Florida and Virginia that were also developed with the same software program.
The XML version of Maryland’s State Code was provided by the Maryland Department of Legislative Services.

For developers:
- Download the State Decoded code from Github.
- Register for an API key to gain access to the Maryland Decoded data.
