Let’s be real: It shouldn’t have taken a tragedy in Florida and a teenage movement for people in Delaware to take a mass stand against gun violence. As of March 25, there have been 17 shooting incidents in Wilmington — and so far, it’s a relatively good year, down from 40 incidents this time in 2017.
That’s what it took, though, and it’s given a boost to Wilmington’s all-weather activists. Saturday’s March For Our Lives protest from Howard High School to Rodney Square was one of the biggest downtown Wilmington demonstrations in history. Joe Biden was there, as well as Sen. Tom Carper and Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, while Sen. Chris Coons demonstrated downstate in Rehoboth.
