Day to day, I Am My Sister’s Keeper (MSK) focuses on empowering Wilmington girls ages 12–18 through leadership development, life skills and entrepreneurial skills training. As a Rites of Passage organization, they know that to really uplift girls, they need to be empowered in both mind and body.

MSK’s Community Health Fair at Bayard Middle School on Saturday, June 23 from 12–4 p.m., will focus on teen pregnancy prevention and HIV/STD awareness, areas where Delaware ranks 26th and 22nd in the nation, respectively, according to the National Center for Health Statistics.

“Organizations like I am My Sister’s Keeper are so vital to our community because they are on the front lines in the battle to keep the young ladies in our community healthy as they develop into the next generation of strong leaders,” said Wilmington 6th District Councilwoman Yolanda McCoy, one of the collaborators of the event. “This event is just one of the many initiatives the organization focuses on, while serving our community and I’m proud to support its efforts.”

Highmark Health Options, AmeriHealth, Hedgeville Civic Association, Pathways of Delaware and Parkway Academy North are among the event’s other collaborators.

The free Community Health Fair will provide attendees with information, resources and giveaways, as well as music, food and performances. Rain date is June 30.
