You might remember Kevin Reilly as a linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles in the mid-’70s, or you may know him from his more recent work as a broadcaster. What you might not know about this Wilmington native (Salesianum, ’69) is that he has one of the most inspirational stories in football. That is, unless you’ve read his book, Tackling Life: How Faith, Family, Friends, and Fortitude Kept an NFL Linebacker in the Game, released last October.

Now, with the Eagles’ first Superbowl victory still fresh, you can see Reilly speak at the Delaware Chamber’s Leadership Breakfast on Wednesday, March 7 from 7:30–9:00 a.m. at the University and Whist Club in Wilmington.

Just three years after becoming an NFL player in 1976, Reilly was diagnosed with a rare scar-tissue cancer. After years of unsuccessful surgeries, he underwent a radical amputation procedure that removed his left arm, shoulder and five ribs. His physical and mental struggles after the surgery, and his subsequent successes in life, from adapting to golf with one arm to his broadcasting career with the Eagles serve as the basis for Reilly’s motivational speaking.

Tickets are $45 for DSCC members, $35 for non-members.
