Here’s some interesting data analysis that landed in our inbox: WalletHub has issued a report on U.S. states most dependent on the gun industry, using 16 key metrics.

Delaware ranks No. 47 in the overall gun industry dependence ranking; only Rhode Island, New Jersey and Maryland (48, 49 and 50, respectively) are less dependent.

Delaware ranks 50th in both the “gun ownership” and “gun politics” metrics.

More rankings for Delaware include:

  • 48th – Firearms-Industry Jobs per Capita
  • 23rd – Avg. Firearms-Industry Wages & Benefits
  • 48th – Total Firearms-Industry Output per Capita
  • 44th – Total Taxes Paid by Firearms Industry per Capita
  • 36th – NICS Background Checks per Capita
  • 47th – Gun-Control Contributions to Congressional Members per Capita
  • 45th – Gun-Rights Contributions to Congressional Members per Capita

Of course, this is only part of the conversation.

Let’s not forget about all the illegally owned guns out there. Wilmington still has too much gun violence, even with the rate of shootings decreasing (so far) in 2018. We’ll need to reconcile that with data that says Delaware should theoretically have very little gun violence before popping any bottles.
