The Bulldog Budget, City Controller candidate Brett Mandel‘s city budget visualization, has a new feature for you to play with: visualize city spending by category.
Built by RJMetrics staffer Ben Garvey and launched in January, the original tool only allowed users to sort the budget by department. Now you can see how much of the city’s 2012 budget was dedicated to renting and leasing computer equipment (about $9.5 million), building demolition (about $3.8 million) and city employee salaries (about $1.4 billion).
Specific city employee salary data remains unavailable. It was removed in February due to safety concerns.
Below, we list the 10 city agencies that spent the most on employee salaries in 2012, which you can compare to the city agencies with the biggest 2012 budgets.
