NYU Game Center now has an artist in residence

Merritt Kopas will be the NYU Game Center’s first ever artist-in-residence, the school has announced.
“During her residence, Merritt will be working on a number of current projects in the Game Center space, she will be dropping in on classes as a guest critic, and will have regular office hours for students to get feedback on their work or general discussion. Her residency will culminate in a talk about her work and research,” according to the school.
Kopas is the creator of more than a dozen games, many of them containing social criticism and humor, with a touch of postmodernism.
Her game, Dee’s Big Night begins with a falling “o” from the top of the screen. If you click it, an “m” falls down in its place. If you click that, a “g” falls down. Clicking that, the phrase “you can’t believe it” falls down the screen. That is the extent of the game.
Kopas is the author of Videogames for Humans, “an anthology of the Twine movement to date.” She also has a podcast, Woodland Secrets, which she describes as a loose conversation with friends, “about their work, lives, and interests.”
