Althea Erickson is the one person at Etsy who works on public policy all the time. She recently spoke with D.C. hill rag Roll Call for a Q&A on the site’s “Technocrat” blog.
In it, Erickson talks about Etsy’s advocacy for lowering the barrier of entry to one-person businesses, as well as its support for net neutrality.
We have real concerns that Etsy as a low margin business would have trouble paying for faster access and that the people who would really suffer under that world would be the Etsy sellers who depend on our platform for income.
So that’s why we’ve been really vocally involved in this and trying to explain the negative business impact not only for tech companies like Etsy but also for the millions of microbusinesses that depend on the Internet for their livelihood.
Here’s Part 1 of the Erickson interview. And here’s Part 2.
