Libraries offer resources that can spread knowledge for folks looking to explore a new area, and we’re seeing that take the form of in-person offerings in a variety of subject areas.

This spring, add biz know-how to the list: Public library systems serving the City of Baltimore and Baltimore County are joining up to offer free resources for entrepreneurs.

Starting in March, the Enoch Pratt Free Library and Baltimore County Public Library will be hosting a series of workshops designed to help people looking to start and grow businesses. Sign-up info.

“The goal of this initiative is to strengthen the relationship between entrepreneurs and the library,” said Paula Miller, Baltimore County Public Library director, in a statement. “Libraries have resources and connections that can benefit small business owners, and we’re excited to be able to share them with those who would most benefit from them.”

The series of nine free workshops will be held at Enoch Pratt’s Edmonson branch and Baltimore County’s Woodlawn branch. The full series will be held for cohorts at both branches, with the idea being that participants can pick the most convenient location.

Among the areas explored: marketing research, business plans, financing options, bookkeeping and side hustles. Plus, advisors will be available with expertise in legal, financial, insurance and accounting realms.

Partners on the academy also include the Urban Library Council, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, Northern and Corridor Region Small Business Development Centers, CASH Campaign of Maryland, Small Business Administration, and Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulations.
