Minority Innovation Weekend is focusing on steps to build a business in Baltimore.

The daylong event, organized by The National Society of Black Engineers – Baltimore Metropolitan Area Chapter, is set for Nov. 11 at the Hotel RL in Inner Harbor.

The goal “is to facilitate a conference that will provide training for individuals who are interested in taking a technology-based idea or concept and turning it into a viable tech startup,” said Minority Innovation Weekend Cooridinator Derek Westray.

Members of the tech community from Baltimore and beyond will be breaking down the process of launching a business throughout the day. Fixt CEO Luke Cooper will give a keynote. Additional Speakers and topics include Groundwork Ventures’ Patricia Edwards on funding an idea, Duane Rollins of social impact accelerator SEED Spot on building an MVP and Operation HOPE’s Robin Haynes on innovating on the side.

The event also features a panel of local innovators including TEDCO’s McKeever Conwell, Sam Henry, Danae Prosthetics founder Winston Frazier and William Mapp III of Studio CodeWorks.

It’s a chance to gain lessons from entrepreneurs who have done it before.
