Side hustles welcome at ‘Money Power Day’

A nonprofit looking to provide financial services for the poor is embracing the side hustle.
A pitch competition for entrepreneurs will be part of the Money Power Day festivities this Saturday at Poly-Western High School. The daylong event, organized by the Baltimore CASH Campaign, is designed to connect folks from all walks of life with financial opportunities.

Two hundred dollars is at stake in the “Pitch Your Side Hustle” competition. Last year, a woman with a business raising pigeons won the first edition of the competition. Only adding to the mystique, organizers tell Technical.ly Baltimore they haven’t heard from her since.
The daylong “financial fitness fair” will also feature opportunities for one-on-one entrepreneurship advice and workshops on how to start a small business. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Congressman Elijah Cummings and other dignitaries will provide words. And, since April 15 approaches, there will be tax services.
The event runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and admission is free.
