For the fourth year in a row, Fortune listed the world’s most impactful companies in its “Change the World” list.
The 57-organization list, which includes well-known companies like Google, Bank of America and Walmart, ranks corporations that in some way combine tackling public health, environmental or economic challenges of humanity with running a profitable business doing at least $1 billion in sales.
Coming it at No. 32 is sensor and connectivity solutions manufacturer TE Connectivity, a publicly-traded, 78,000-employee-strong Swiss company whose United States HQ and CEO are a 40-minute train ride away from Center City in Berwyn, Pa., and just a 10-minute drive from Vanguard’s campus on the storied Route 202 corridor.
The company’s tech is behind clean vehicles around the world. Its sensors helping reduce pollution from diesel engines; its connectivity solutions helping hydrogen fuel-cell engines and electric long-haul trucks stay operational.
“Each day, our 78,000 global employees work towards creating a safer, sustainable, productive and connected future,” said TE Connectivity CEO Terrence Curtin. “We know we can provide advantages to our customers, owners and employees by living our purpose and demonstrating that companies like ours can be financially successful and have a lasting, positive net impact on the world.”

Aside from its Berwyn base — out of which some 250 staffers work — the company has a slate of production and corporate hubs across Pennsylvania: in places like Middletown, Harrisburg, Jonestown, Waynesboro, Landisville, Mt. Joy, Manheim and Mechanicsburg.
(Another European company with its U.S. hub in the Philly suburbs is German enterprise software maker SAP, employer to some 3,000 people in the Philly area, mainly in Delaware County’s Newtown Square.)
Other companies with Philly-area ties also made it to list. At No. 2, you’ll find Kenilworth, N.J.-based pharma company Merck — which has 9,000 staffers in West Pointe, Pa., plus other, smaller hubs around the area.
At No. 18 is JPMorgan Chase, the New York-based financial services company with a serious tech presence north of Wilmington, Del.
New Brunswick, N.J.-based life sciences company Johnson & Johnson, which last July said it would set up a networking hub at the Pennovation Center, is also on the list coming in at No. 20.
