City Council moved forward last week with a bill that would ban people from using 3D printers to make guns.
If the bill is passed, Philadelphia would be the first city to ban 3D-printed guns, a Philadelphia Police Department legal advisor said, according to the Daily News.
“The possibility of people using 3D printers to produce weapons raised eyebrows after the Texas group Defense Distributed posted a video in May of a Star Wars-like plastic gun being used,” the Daily News wrote. Watch the video below.

The bill, sponsored by Councilman Kenyatta Johnson, passed out of Council’s Public Safety Committee and will next be voted on by all of City Council.
