For the Philly baseball fan who’s a sucker for vintage photos, poetry or art, there’s Box Score.
A free mobile app from local poet and Temple creative writing professor Kevin Varrone, the app is a set of “literary baseball cards” that trace the history of baseball in Philadelphia. It features historic photos, original artwork and recordings of nearly 80 writers and artists performing poems inspired by the sport. It was released in June.
Download it for iPad or iPhone here. (The iPad version is more robust, though, Varrone said.)
The poems in Box Score will be released as a book in 2014, Varrone said, but he decided to create the app first because he was “really excited by the possibility of using a popular technology to stretch the possibilities of a poetry book a bit.”
