The high cost of going digital could shut down drive-in movie theaters like the Mahoning Drive-In in the Poconos, Newsworks reported.
Later this year, studios will stop sending out movies on 35mm film and only offer them in digital formats. That’s why the Mahoning Drive-In’s last hope is to win a social media contest whose prize is a digital projector. Getting rid of its old-school projector and buying digital equipment would set the drive-in back $85,000, Newsworks reported.
