Healthify.me wins $5K grand prize at Philly Health Codefest [VIDEO]

Healthify.me, a service that helps people find healthy replacements for unhealthy foods they like to eat, came away with the $5,000 grand prize award at this weekend’s Philly Health Codefest.

Nine teams participated in the healthcare-focused hackathon hosted by Drexel University’s i-School and Nvigor, said Drexel science writer Kerry Boland, and four of them were made up of students, as Chief Data Officer Mark Headd noted.

$3,000 SECOND PRIZE: Team Vitamin.ME
Vitamin.ME is an Android-only app that allows a user to search for food recipes based on the user’s specific nutritional needs (more Vitamin A, B, C, Proteins; less Carbohydrates, Fat; etc.)

Other awards: $1,000 Majority Student Team Innovation, $500 People’s Choice, $500 Best Mobile, $500 Alliance Global Services Award for Most User-Friendly

$2,000 THE iSCHOOL AWARD FOR TEAM INNOVATION: Team Goodeats
Team Goodeats aimed to build an online food-ordering web application that provides the user with detailed nutritional data about each restaurant and all their menu items. The web-app also makes automated calls to the restaurant with the orders and reverts back to the user with the success/failure of the order being placed.

Other awards: $1,500 NSF Center for Visual and Decision Informatics Award for Innovation

$500 VENTURE CAPITALIST’S CHOICE: Team Hospital Query
Team Hospital Query focused on these questions: How well does a hospital perform? How does a hospital compare to its peers? Evaluate the performance of a hospital and compare a hospital against its peer group.
