Dell went private earlier this month to the tune of $24.4 billion, prompted by lackluster PC sales and a move toward business services (remember Dell’s acquisition of Berwyn-based Boomi?).

It turns out that the Austin-based company has a distinct Philly tie: Stephen J. Felice, president and chief commercial officer of Dell, grew up in Mayfair in Northeast Philadelphia and got his start at Philadelphia-based Bell Atlantic Corp., which created Verizon, as the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

From the Inquirer:

Felice, intense and boyish at 55, has come a long way from the rowhouse on Glenview Street in Philadelphia’s Mayfair section where he grew up, attending St. Matthew’s School, rooting for the Wilt Chamberlain-Chet Walker 76ers and the Flyers, and braving New Year’s crowds to watch his musician father march with the Hegeman String Band.
