The city is looking for a local firm or developer to create myPhillyRising, a mobile app to facilitate civic engagement. The project is similar to the city’s suggestion for the Google Places API Challenge.
Find a description of the project and directions on how to apply here. Apply by Feb. 15.
Below, hear from the city’s Chief Innovation Officer Adel Ebeid on the city’s effort to connect with the local technology community.
The City is trying some new strategies to better connect work that we need to have done, particularly for web and app development projects, with the local technology community. You may notice when you look at the link that it’s a GitHub Gist – not the traditional way of posting a solicitation for work from the City. We’re also using GitHub to accept and review responses.
We want to develop more effective ways to match the smart people we have in our own community with projects that the city has on its plate. This will no doubt take a while, but we’re committed to trying new things and seeing how they work. If we’re successful, we can build on what works and hopefully develop new processes and systems that are better for the City, and our local technology community.
