Just because an organization is a nonprofit, doesn’t mean it should get bottom of the barrel supplies.

That’s the idea behind GiveToBenefit, a new crowdfunding site based in Penn Valley, Pa. in Montgomery County that emphasizes the importance of the suppliers of these goods. GiveToBenefit features crowdfunding campaigns for local nonprofits looking to purchase a specific high-quality item. Right now, you can help two local theatre companies raise money for a $5,500 upright piano from Hailun Pianos and a nursing home raise money for a $10,100 water purification system from Watermark.

Founded by Daniel M. Sossaman II and David Richman, GiveToBenefit’s business model revolves around charging manufacturers a marketing fee. It doesn’t charge nonprofits to participate in campaigns on the site. GiveToBenefit has two full-time employees.

Sossaman, 30, lives in Northern Liberties. He grew up in Penn Valley, Pa.
