Last month we asked you to write us a 250 word story about why you love Philly for a chance to win $250 in General Assembly class credits. Thanks for your submissions. We’re posting the winners this week: Meet Neil Patel, one of the contest’s runners-up.
Find his story below the jump. And don’t miss General Assembly’s weekend workshop on entrepreneurial thinking and best practices in UX design from Nov. 17 to Nov. 18.

Home is where the heart is. So legends say. Philly is home, and has been for as long as I can remember. I want it to continue to flourish in a tradition of culture and freedom to express ourselves. We the people.
I’m not a lawyer. I shoot from the hip, play by the ear, eat wonderful Philly food. The restaurants in this city will give a travelling “foodie” a week of delightful engorgement.
With respect to Doc MLK, Rodney King, and Kanye West, I had a dream that Philly accepted its citizens, its citizens respected it back, and its people loved each other. That dream, and I say it with cautious optimism, is starting to manifest itself. I love Philly for its people.
Last, but not least, I love Philly for it’s beer/sports . I group them because they are what make me the “Quintessential Philly Guy”, or a QPG, as a friend calls me. I am 4 for 4. I have red, blue, orange, green, and gray in my wardrobe. I watched Hawk hit a 3 to beat MJ and the Bulls in the playoffs at the Spectrum. I’ll never forget how I felt leaving that game. Inspired. I like a cold beer and I prefer PBR. Don’t fix what isn’t broken. Fix what is. On our way in the right direction.
I love my city.
