Former Etsy CTO John Allspaw announced Monday he’s launching a new company, Adaptive Capacity Labs, a consultancy to help companies save money by preventing IT incidents.
Allspaw is starting the company along with engineering academics Richard Cook and David Woods, both of whom are at the Ohio State University.

Along with former Etsy CEO Chad Dickerson, Allspaw was a victim of the Great Etsy Shakeup of 2017, during which private equity firms bought a large portion of the company and which culminated in the firing of Allspaw, Dickerson, 140 workers and its summer interns. Allspaw had worked at the company for nearly eight years. Both he and Dickerson were lauded with compliments from their former workers on their way out.
According to his personal blog post, Allspaw took the summer off “to spend time with my family, enjoy New York summertime, and give my mind time to refresh and recharge.”
