Sunday: See the latest coworking space in southern Brooklyn

Mill Basin, please give a warm welcome to your newest resident: an “intimate coworking community” called MiniWorks.

For many of the neighborhoods whose companies and organizations we cover on a regular basis — Williamsburg, Dumbo, Downtown Brooklyn — coworking is practically old-hat at this point. But beyond those areas, where technologists and entrepreneurs are perhaps less concentrated, it’s still somewhat of a novelty.

Enter MiniWorks, which just opened a week ago, on Aug. 1. Mill Basin, if you’re not familiar, is located in the southeastern reaches of the borough, near Canarsie and Marine Park (not to mention Kings Plaza Shopping Center). Like BKLYN Commons, another coworking space outside Brooklyn’s tech center, MiniWorks aims to draw a diverse member base of solo practitioners and creatives in addition to tech entrepreneurs. Its founder, Laura Jean-Jacques, has a background in fashion merchandising.

On Sunday, Aug. 13, MiniWorks will host a grand opening event at its headquarters on 2185 Schenectady Ave. The lineup sounds quite lively: it will include a dance performance by ColemanCollective and a two-hour set by DJ Gabrielle Kwarteng. Tickets for the event are limited; as of this writing, 43 are available (so sign up quickly!).

And if you’re actively looking for space to work, MiniWorks as of now has plenty of space available. It just recently signed up its first tenant, Jean-Jacques told Technical.ly by email.
