Honey raises $1M seed round [Startup Roundup]

Who’s getting money?

Dumbo-based and Huge-founded enterprise intranet startup Honey has raised a $1 million seed round from Berlin-based Point Nine Capital, as VentureBeat previously reported. It was an equity-only round according to Honey CEO Rachel Kaplowitz, Technical.ly Brooklyn has learned. Kaplowitz told VentureBeat that Honey sees SharePoint and Microsoft’s Yammer as its chief competitors. We covered Honey this time last year as it moved its business model from freemium to free trial.

Who’s making moves?

L+R is a Dumbo-based agency. After making lots of apps for other brands, it has released its own mobile game, Coloroloc. In the game, you mix and match colors, in a race against the clock. Get it free on Android and iOS.
This past weekend, NYU Polytechnic hosted a hackathon for the Connect Ability Challenge from AT&T. Here were the three winning teams, with their respective prizes:

• alt_text_bot ($5,000): A tool for Twitter users with visual impairment that automates describing images tweeted within posts.
• StenoSpeak ($3,500): Open-source stenography technology that works with a mobile app.
• Tranquil Tracker ($1,500): An anxiety attack preventer that uses biosensors.

Who’s getting buzz?

BioLite’s NanoGrid got a really positive review from 50 Campfires, a site for weird people who leave cities even when there hasn’t been a tsunami or whatever. We wrote about the user-experience explorations done for this product, the company’s first for both the developed and developing worlds.
