Final Frontier Design has launched ‘The Space Suit Experience’

You can now head down to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, get into a real space suit, get pressurized, perform some basic astronaut tasks and even try out a flight simulator under air pressure, all while talking through one of those glitchy microphones you hear in space movies.

It’s called “The Space Suit Experience” and only Brooklyn’s Final Frontier Design is offering anything like it.

We reported that this project was coming earlier this year. The company debuted its new experience in a story (with video) on Popular Science.

The experience will cost $395, however, and it does have a few limitations.

“Though we are excited to offer this opportunity to all those interested, current participation is limited at this time to US Citizens and US Permanent Residents ONLY according to US ITAR laws,” the Final Frontier website reads. “Participants must be between 5’2″ – 6’5″, under 225 pounds, and in good physical condition.”

The reason the company has to limit the test to U.S. citizens is because the suit is classified as a weapon, and weapons can’t be shown to non-citizens. Not even Canadians.
