This past weekend, the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Regional Championship, a sort of “robot bee” for high school students, went down at the NYU Poly School of Engineering. 36 teams from across New York City and Long Island competed in robotics challenges.

This year, student teams had to design and program robots to place plastic blocks on pendulum goals. The following teams will advance to the Super-Regional tournament in York, Pennsylvania, on April 3rd:

  • 5069 – Robogamers – Independent team, New York, NY  (Inspire Award Winner)
  • 6657 – Legotronettes – Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Garden City, NY  (Inspire Award Finalist 2)
  • 4995 – Titanium Tigers – Francis Lewis HS, Fresh Meadows, NY (Winning Alliance First Pick)
  • 7120 – Bionica – Hewlett HS, Hewlett, NY (Inspire Award Finalist 3)
  • 6496 – SEP Nerd Herd – St. Edmunc Preparatory HS, Brooklyn, NY (Winning Alliance Second Pick)
  • 4183 – Icebreakers – Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Merrick, NY (Think Award Winner)
  • 4174 – Atomic Theory – The Dalton School, New York, NY (Finalist Alliance Captain)

FTC is one of four robotics programs offered by NYC FIRST, the local nonprofit affiliate of FIRST® – an international nonprofit that inspires students to get involved in science and technology and prepare them for jobs of the future.
