Maker’s Row: online marketplace for manufacturing at Sourcing event

Brooklyn startup Maker’s Row has been exhibiting at one of the country’s largest style material exhibit conference this past week, alongside American Apparel and Brooks Brothers, as Apparel reported.

In Las Vegas, SOURCING at MAGIC bills itself to be the world’s most extensive fashion sourcing event and Maker’s Row founders Matthew Burnett and Tanya Menendez are aiming to make the most of it.

“We are partnering and networking with a large number of domestic based apparel designers, manufacturers and materials suppliers under a ‘Made in America’ tent,” shared account manager David Rosen in an email to Technically Brooklyn.

Founded in November 2012, the company announced this July $1 million in seed investment led by Index Ventures and Comcast Ventures. It emerged from the 2012 Brooklyn Beta Summer Camp. It now operates out of the NYU-Poly DUMBO Incubator.

Maker’s Row aims to help small scale designers and large corporations access domestic manufacturers. They divide the manufacturing process into six stages, both to help beginners understand the process and to help veterans quickly find the sort of business partner they need. The six stages are: Ideation, Pattern-Making, Materials, Sample-Making, Tooling and Production.

Fashion is no doubt a strength of theirs, but Maker’s Row aims to be a destination to match makers with designers to get work done.
