FireEye is partnering with a leading cloud security company

FireEye, a publicly traded cybersecurity company with an office in Reston, Virginia, is partnering with cloud security company iboss to provide a joint tech solution for cloud-based cyber threat protection.

FireEye CEO Kevin Mandia announced the partnership during his keynote speech this morning during the company’s Cyber Defense Summit. The iboss + FireEye Cloud Network Security platform brings FireEye’s network security offerings inside iboss’ cloud platform to provide users with a secure threat protection portal, no matter where they are or what device they are using, according to a press release.

“Corporate data is increasingly being hosted in third party clouds and cloud apps are becoming the norm. With corporate users and devices accessing this data from remote locations, the need to transition security to the cloud has become critical,” iboss CEO Paul Martini said in a statement. “This partnership combines the power of FireEye and iboss’s threat defense technology delivered through the iboss Secure Cloud Gateway platform, resulting in unmatched protection across any device, anywhere via the cloud.”

This joint solution includes all features from the iboss cloud and FireEye Network Security and is offered as a subscription service. Here’s some key offerings from the platform:

• Inspects the content of encrypted traffic
• Provides cloud internet security beyond the office
• Web filtering functions
• Firewall security functions

There’re 4,000 organizations worldwide in Boston-based iboss’ customer base, and the company reported that its cloud architecture is backed by over 100 patents. FireEye is a new cyber company in the region, opening its Reston office earlier this year, and is headquartered in Milpitas, California. The company reports having 8,200 customers.

This partnership comes after FireEye acquired McLean, Virginia-based Verodin earlier this year in a deal valued at approximately $250 million in cash and stock. Back in 2013, the company also acquired Mandiant, now FireEye’s cybersecurity consultancy arm, which is headquartered in Alexandria. These acquisition follow the company’s plan to grow its footprint in Virginia.
