NET/WORK DC 2018 brought a mix of attendees seeking a job in tech and an intro to D.C.’s tech community in the process.
The hiring event, which is organized by Technical.ly, drew more than 100 attendees to Gensler’s downtown offices on Wednesday event. The event was presented by 1776 and the (newly expanded) Flatiron School. Thanks to our media partners ByteBack, General Assembly and Hire Her.
Among the attendees looking to learn more about tech jobs in D.C. was Rea Johnson. She said she’s been looking to explore the tech community in D.C. and the event provided a chance to meet folks. She appreciated that it wasn’t held during the day.
“I just like the fact that it’s after work hours and it’s for real people,” she said.
Another attendee we met named J.D. said he’s looking to get more involved in the tech community as he seeks a product manager role. He’s been attending meetups and wanted to get some insight from employers about what’s relevant.
At a station perched in Gensler’s VR lounge, attendees got some new headshots. The event also featured resume reviews and career advice.

The attendees talked with representatives from 20 companies like MPower Financing, ChurnZero and Hatch Apps. In some cases it also provided those firms with a chance to meet more people locally. Among the tech companies was Delv Global, a financial-focused business and tech consultancy, which recently opened a new office in D.C. working out of 1776.
“We’re really excited with what we’ve seen,”said CEO Dave Lindsay, adding that the event was an “opportunity to get out here, meet the talent in the region and understand the technology ecosystem.
