D.C.’s favorite 54-hour startup competition is coming back this spring.
Startup Weekend, a decentralized Techstars event that happens in cities around the world every few months, is a perennial #dctech feature. It convenes a group of would-be entrepreneurs, designers and developers on a Friday evening for pitches, after which attendees divide themselves up into groups and work toward an MVP of their startup product by the demos on Sunday afternoon. Not a lot of sleeping happens.
D.C.’s last startup weekend, in November, was the first in the country to include deaf participants. And every once in a while, the weekend manages to launch a real, honest to goodness company. But even if your work on the project ends on that Sunday, Startup Weekend is a great way to (as organizers put it) “put your hacking skills to the test … find a co-founder, meet someone new, or learn an entirely new skill.”
The spring edition will take place March 10-12, and organizers will be hosting a pre-event, informational happy hour on Feb. 7.
