Mayor Muriel Bowser announced her pick for D.C.’s new Chief Technology Officer position — Archana Vemulapalli — on Tuesday.
Vemulapalli is currently CTO of the facilities management company Pristine Environments, and previously worked in management consulting for firms like Booz Allen Hamilton, Deloitte Consulting and Lucent Technologies. She’s a Georgetown MBA alumnus, and a 2015 recipient of the Washington Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business award. Furthermore, she’s involved in Women in Technology — the local professional association for women working in tech.
“Archana Vemulapalli is the person to keep the District on the cutting edge of technology and enhance the service delivery for District agencies and residents,” Bowswer said in a statement.

Bowser has had some trouble filling the position of CTO — she appointed Tegene Baharu in March, but he resigned in October ahead of his confirmation hearing. Since then David Bishop has been filling in as interim CTO.
