Relevant Health, a health-tech accelerator based in Rockville, announced and welcomed its inaugural cohort Tuesday.
The seven selected startups will begin their five-month program this week. According to the press release, the program will involve “intensive product development focus,” with the aim of “enabling [the startups] to improve their skills to define, develop, position and launch a viable health tech product.”
The startups are building everything from wearable devices to speech therapy tools. During the next five months the companies will have access to Relevant Health’s coworking space in Rockville as well as mentors, support and up to $50,000 in funding — all in return for 8 percent of the startup’s common founding stock.
The roster for this inaugural class includes:
- AgeWell Biometrics — AgeWell is developing software to aid detection of movement patterns that may increase an individual’s risk of falling. (Technical.ly met AgeWell at the Aging 2.0 pitch competition at 1776 in September.)
- CheeksUp — CheeksUp is a Latvian startup developing an interactive computer program to support childhood speech therapy.
- ErgonometriX — ErgonometriX is working on a wearable device that can be used to track and reduce lifting maneuvers that may lead to lower-back injuries in workers.
- Gastro Girl — Gastro Girl aims to create platform for coaching a support for patients living with gastrointestinal conditions.
- Lazy — Lazy wants to simplify the complex reporting requirements that currently exist in hospitals.
- Neopenda — Neopenda is working on a wearable to monitor the vital signs of infants.
- Werbie — Werbie aims to develop a web and mobile app to deliver nutritional advice to women with high-risk pregnancies.
