Why DC’s new woman-focused coworking space set up shop in Friendship Heights

“What I wanted to do is be close to where people live instead of downtown,” said Julia Westfall, the owner of Hera Hub DC, a new franchise of women-focused coworking spaces that opened up earlier this month in Friendship Heights.
“The reason why a lot of women are working from home is that they want more flexibility,” added Westfall, who has lived in the neighborhood for decades.
The space, which is not reserved to women, has already collected 22 memberships.
It cultivates a different look than many of the startups, incubators and coworking spaces you’ll find downtown.
With inside fountains, tasteful spa-inspired teal hues and woman-created art on the walls, Hera Hub is angling for “a more beautiful environment rather than a high-tech environment with concrete floors,” said Westfall.
The 4,400-square-foot coworking space is located at 5028 Wisconsin Ave., in between the Friendship Heights and Tenleytown metro stations. Coworking access memberships range from $169 to $429 a month.
