Since last October, Girl Develop It Wilmington has been hosting affordable and judgment-free workshops for women to learn how to code.
Now the group is taking things up of notch by kicking off a free series called “Successful Women Technologists” this March. As Technical.ly Delaware’s lead reporter, I’m proud to be moderating the first panel.
The series will showcase several women who have flourished in the male-dominated tech industry, and it’ll also bring awareness to career opportunities for women in Wilmington’s growing tech scene.
The first panel, which will be from 6-8 p.m. March 31 at 1313 Innovation, will feature Tanya Bakalov, cofounder of SevOne; Jessica Scarane, business analyst at The Archer Group; and Pauline Rubin, creative director at First Ascent Design.
Attendees will have the chance to ask them questions and will also get to meet Girl Develop It teachers and organizers, who are hoping women who attend will be inspired by the panelists to learn more about how they can use technology and even transition into a tech career.
“I couldn’t be happier with our first panel to kick off this series!” wrote Megan Anthony, Girl Develop It’s co-lead and panel organizer (and occasional Technical.ly Delaware contributor). “We’re not just showcasing programmers, and I think this will really encourage our community to jump into the tech scene and that their skills in other industries are valuable in this area too.”
