When Denver-based researcher Janelle Shane used artificial intelligence to name a few guinea pigs for the Portland Guinea Pig Rescue, folks at the Morris Animal Shelter got serious fomo.

It all started, as many things do these days, with a Twitter thread.

“We were trying to think up cute, appealing, eye-catching names for nine adorable guinea pigs someone surrendered last week, when I happened to see this thread between Chuck Wendig and Eric Geller about an AI naming guinea pigs for Portland Guinea Pig Rescue,” said Dan Solomon, outreach coordinator at the Washington West shelter.

Solomon, who also helps run social media for the organization, jumped in the thread mentioning the little critters they had just received.

“Didn’t necessarily think anything would come of it, but then Shane very kindly replied with a list of 12 wonderful names — with extras just in case a few didn’t take.”

And of course, the artificial intelligence platform delivered greatly. Meet some of the newly christened animals, which we have rated in the stylings of WeRateDogs™.
