The numbers behind TechGirlz’ biggest year ever

Founder Tracey Welson-Rossman plans to prioritize fundraising this year in order to grow the nonprofit even more.

Whoa, looks like it’s been TechGirlz’ biggest year so far.
The humble number of 165 girls reached by the initial batch of programs back in 2013 has seen some exponential growth through the years: the 2015-2016 school year wrapped up with a total of 2600 girlz enrolled in 125 workshops, according to the nonprofit.
Since last year’s recap, the number of programs has more than doubled, up from 58. Attendance also grew by about a 1,000 girls when compared to last year’s number: 1,555.
What’s more, the total footprint of the Philly-based organization aimed at teaching middle-school girls technology skills is rounding 5,000 students, according to their 2016 Annual Report published Tuesday.
2016 was also a year of global span for the organization, with the org’s TechShopz in a Box program reaching as far as Paraguay, Belgium and Canada.
“I am so proud of my team and what we have been able to accomplish,” said the org’s founder Tracey Welson-Rossman. “I am really excited about how TechGirlz is creating a community for girls who did not have a place to go in the past.”
Welson-Rossman said stepping up fundraising is one of the goals for the next 12-18 months. Taking into account the goals the org has set for the coming years, it better be: TechGirlz wants to hit the 10,000 girls mark, enrolling 1,000 volunteer instructors in the process.
“We are committed to keeping our expenses to a minimum, but to reach our goal of 10,000 girls we do need to expand our staff and infrastructure,” the founder said. “We are looking for corporate sponsors, as well as increasing our search for grants to support this growth. The Women in Tech Summit is another fundraising vehicle which we will be growing in 2017.”
