Betamore has a new software engineering training program launching this fall for Baltimore City residents interested in entering tech.
The 22-week grant funded program is currently accepting applications only from Baltimore residents, and is looking to enroll 15 people in the program.
Designed as entry level program, it will provide training in programming, software testing, databases, web servers, front-end frameworks, Scrum and Agile. Offered as a hybrid program with a mix of virtual and in-person sessions, the general time commitment expected is two three-hour evenings per week and a four-and-a-half hour class every other Saturday.
All of the coursework is taught by CEO Aaron Brooks and the team at Baltimore-based technical talent pipeline company Mastermnd. While working at Baltimore software firm Fearless, Brooks started providing instruction to local meetups and on streaming services. Last year, he took Mastermnd full-time.
The academy program from Beatmore is looking to help jumpstart careers as well as skillsets. Successful graduates will receive job offers in entry level positions in software development, DevOps and UX/UI, per Betamore.
Applications will be open until the end of October, with a start date for the program expected sometime towards the end of November.
If all things go well for the participants in the program, by May of 2022 there will be 15 new junior software engineers working at companies in Baltimore, where the median income of a junior engineer is $64,987, according to Payscale.
Port Covington-based Betamore’s academy is one of several Baltimore programs offering pathways into software careers that don’t involve a four-year degree.
