Delaware’s manufacturing industry is growing, most recently in Sussex County.
Miller Metal Fabrication has chosen to build its new 60,000 square foot facility on eight and a half acres adjacent to Bridgeville’s Newton Business Park, where the company currently has a facility.
Once the new facility is built, the 26-year-old, full-service metal fabricator will consolidate six positions from its Greensboro, Maryland shop and has plans to add 19 new positions within three years from its completion, while retaining the current 92 jobs in Delaware.
Miller Metal is receiving grants from the Delaware Strategic Fund by the State Council on Development Finance for the project, including a Jobs Performance Grant of more than $57,000 and a Capital Expenditure Grant of nearly $208,000. The company itself is investing almost $7 million in the new facility, including acquisition, construction and fit-out costs.
“We strongly believe this new ‘world class’ production facility will be an integral part of our long-term growth strategy,” said Martin W. Miller, founder and owner of Miller Metal, in a statement. “We are extremely appreciative to have State of Delaware support in this effort.”
In addition to competitive wages and benefits, Miller Metal offers on-site and remote technical training to its production workers, per the company. Miller Metals specializes in laser cutting, machining, forming, design engineering, welding and assembly services.
“Sussex County is excited at the prospect of adding more good-paying jobs, thanks to Miller Metal Fabrication’s expansion plans and the approval of these grants,” said Sussex County Council President Michael H. Vincent. “Sussex County has a robust manufacturing sector, one that is thriving with many small and mid-size businesses. This funding will ensure another local company stays hard at work creating products that we can proudly say are made in America — and made right here in Sussex County.”
In other recent manufacturing news, Newark-headquartered Adesis is set to triple in size in Delaware after announcing a new laboratory expansion in the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington.
