Black Girl Ventures (BGV) and social impact incubator SEED SPOT are teaming up to host a a virtual two-day Launch Camp.
Based in the District, BGV is an event series that’s part pitch competition and part crowdfunding campaign for Black and brown women entrepreneurs. The organization has more chapters in Durham, Birmingham, Miami, Houston and Philadelphia.
During SEED SPOT’s two-day Launch Camp, entrepreneurs get training on how to formulate pitches, go through SEED SPOT’s proprietary social impact curriculum, get one-on-one mentorship and receive guidance from content experts on topics from legal to accounting. Once an in-person offering, SEED SPOT has since moved all of its programming online because of the pandemic.
For this special edition, the program is specifically inviting Black and brown women founders to participate.
“Black and brown woman-identifying founders are determined, hardworking and innovative, and this program is specifically designed to help them take their changemaking businesses to the next level,” said BGV founder and CEO Shelly Bell in a statement.
The Launch Camp will be hosted virtually on Aug. 27 and 28 and applications are being accepted on a rolling basis. Interested woman founders from anywhere can apply to participate here. The program will end with a virtual pitch event on Aug. 28 at 6:30 p.m. for participating entrepreneurs to present their ventures.
“This program will provide early stage entrepreneurs, and those passionate about solving social issues, with the foundation for a sustainable revenue plan,” said SEED SPOT Chief of Staff Corinn Perry. “SEED SPOT’s mentorship, resources, and expertise, combined with Black Girl Ventures’ networks and support, will empower new entrepreneurs to bring forth the crucial changes our communities need.”
This partnership comes after BGV launched BGV Connect, and online community offering educational and networking events, entrepreneurial training, and business and funding resources.
