South Asian American Digital Archive is raising money to publish its first book

“Most young South Asian Americans are never given the opportunity to learn about their own community’s histories and, as a result, do not see themselves reflected in the legacies of individuals who shaped the American narrative.”

For the last seven years, the South Asian American Digital Archive has been working to preserve and share South Asian American history. Their documents and records help to tell a part of American history that is often lost or forgotten.
The Center City-based organization’s next step: They want to write a book.
It’s called Our Stories: An Introduction to South Asian American History. The organization is raising $30,000 on Kickstarter to fund the project and it was just named a Kickstarter staff pick.
Support by July 3
“Most young South Asian Americans are never given the opportunity to learn about their own community’s histories and, as a result, do not see themselves reflected in the legacies of individuals who shaped the American narrative,” the Kickstarter page reads. “Our stories are diverse, vibrant, and powerful, yet they are hidden from view.”
The book, which will be written by scholars, activists and artists, will be published in a print and digital edition.
