The Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) just announced the launch of a series of educational funding events.

CIT is a nonprofit corporation created by the State of Virginia that invests in technology companies.

With this series, the nonprofit will give an overview of funding opportunities from CIT’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Funding Support Program, the CIT GAP Funds and Virginia Founders Fund (VFF), and the Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund (CRCF).

These briefings are open to Virginia-based researchers and entrepreneurs.

In June, CRCF selected 41 Virginia-based research projects to receive 2019 funding awards totaling $2.51 million.

The new event series is timed with the announcement of CRCF’s 2020 Request for Proposals to dish out another $2.5 million to high-potential technology development and commercialization activities in the clean energy, cybersecurity, data analytics, life sciences and unmanned systems sectors.

Interested researchers and entrepreneurs must submit a letter of intent by Nov. 6 for application consideration (and follow the guidelines — they’re strict). Applications will be due in February 2020 for the next round of recipients to be announced in June 2020.

The briefings kick off on Sept. 25, with one in Norfolk, Virgnia, at 10 a.m. at the Strome Entrepreneurial Center and the other in Williamsburg, Virginia at 2 p.m. at The College of William and Mary Office of University Advancement. Both of these sessions will focus on CRCF funding.

CIT’s site has the full listing of briefing events with details on how to register. There will be multiple sessions thru October.
