Mike Pfeifer, founder of the Wilmington video production startup 1440 Film Co., made a commitment to giving when he launched the company early this year.
“One big difference in my production company is that there is a social giving element built in to my business model,” Pfeifer said in an April interview with Technical.ly. “A percentage of each project will go toward a fund that will annually tell one local nonprofit, cause, or person’s story free of charge.”
That project, called Project Giveback, is officially on. From now through Aug. 15, nonprofit organizations and worthy causes can submit their story to 1440 via a digital questionnaire for consideration.
“1440 Film Co. has put together a selection committee of individuals with experience in the nonprofit sector, philanthropy, finance, education, healthcare and public service,” said Pfeifer. “This committee will be tasked with choosing one nonprofit or worthy cause as the recipient of Project GiveBack — the idea being that there are lots of great nonprofits out there without the means to tell their own story, and that Project GiveBack could have a huge impact on their organization and in turn the communities they serve.”
To qualify, organizations must be based in Delaware, be able to provide a financial audit or the last two years of profit/loss, and have a general marketing plan for use of the video if selected. The selected organization will work with 1440 to create a video in a format (short promotional, documentary, etc.) to be determined based on what will work best to meet its goals.
“Between creative services, production costs and post-production fees, I’m estimating that the project will be valued at over $50,000,” said Pfeifer.
The selected organization will be announced on Sept. 9.
