Launched last spring, the accelerator program welcomed 10 social impact ventures working in various areas to go through its first program. Janice Omadeke, founder of the Mentor Method, and Darren Cambridge, cofounder of Mia Learning, are alumni of SEED SPOT’s first pre-seed accelerator program and have since both gone on to win pitch competitions, gain close clients and more importantly, learn how to successfully raise capital.
The eight-week accelerator will run from Feb. 5-April 9 and will provide participating entrepreneurs with in-depth support for scaling and attracting investment opportunities. The early consideration deadline is on Monday, Dec. 17 and applications will be accepted until the final deadline of Wednesday, Jan. 2.
Founders will learn about high-growth business models, creating a winning team, crafting strong go-to-market strategies, modeling financial models and nurturing investor relationships, a press release states. The program will meet twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in downtown D.C.
“Through the Impact Accelerator, entrepreneurs are able to concentrate on the growth of their impact-driven venture, meet investors, and ultimately see their venture scale to make more positive change in the world. We know that through investing in the local Washington, DC impact economy, we will be able to help solve some of our region’s most pressing issues,” C’pher Gresham, chief strategy and operations officer at SEED SPOT and native Washingtonian said in a statement.
At the accelerator’s conclusion, the entrepreneurs will pitch to win $15,000 cash unrestricted grant funding and other prizes at a community-wide Demo Day at the Woolly Mammoth Theater on April 9, similar to the Demo Day at the end of SEED SPOT’s 2-Day Launch Camp program. Founders retain 100 percent equity when participating in the Impact Accelerator, the incubator said in a statement.
