Yelp punched in “east coast tech hub” and D.C., it seems, has popped up as the top result.
The Washington Business Journal is reporting that the online review site has picked a Downtown D.C. building for its new East Coast beachhead:
The publicly traded company, which has become a staple on most smart phones for its deep base of restaurant reviews and other info, has signed a lease for about 52,000 square feet at Terrell Place, 575 Seventh St. NW, with plans to start moving in later this year. It expects to create about 500 new jobs over the next few years and has expansion options in Terrell Place to accommodate future growth, according to D.C.’s Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development.
Landing a ubiquitous San Francisco tech company is a big get for the District, and the Bowser administration’s innovation agenda. It’ll be exciting to see which Yelp teams will populate the D.C. office and whether they’ll contribute to the area’s growing pool of technical talent.
